Formation Of Titanium Dioxide Ceramic Anatase

    Titanium Dioxide Ceramic Anatase were obtained using acetic acid, while phase-pure rutile and brookite nanoparticles were obtained with hydrochloric acid at a different concentration. The nanomaterials were characterized using x-ray diffraction, UV-visible reflectance spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. We propose that anatase formation is dominated by surface energy effects, and that rutile and brookite formation follows a dissolution–precipitation mechanism, where chains of sixfold-coordinated titanium complexes arrange into different crystal structures depending on the reactant chemistry. 

    Anatase nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) with high photocatalytic activities was prepared by hydrothermal crystallization with the addition of acetic acid. The presence of acetic acid could arrest the growth of the nanocrystallites during the hydrothermal processes and be propitious to form nanocrystallites with round edges and corners. This morphology of (TiO2) had more active sites in the photocatalytic process and showed high photocatalytic activity in the degradation of the methylene blue in the aqueous solution.

     Nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) has widespread applications in photocatalyst, solar energy cell, ductile ceramic, gas sensor, mesoporous membrane, and pigment applications. Many of these applications depend on the morphology of the nanocrystallites and so the control of the morphology of TiO2 has become an important problem in the preparation of nanosized TiO2. Selective surfactants could be used to tune the growth rate of the faces to control the shape of the nanocrystallites.1 Calcining amorphous TiO2 powders at different temperatures could gain single-phase anatase nanocrystallites with tuned crystalline sizes.And hydrothermal processes are apt to produce well-developed defect-free single crystals.Addition of various acids could effectively control the phase and morphology of TiO2.
